Consider 5 Things When Moving to a New Home

45% of Americans agree: moving to a new home is more stressful than even a breakup or divorce. That makes sense, there’s a lot to keep track of and change in a big move.

But as you look for a new home, there are a few things that could be deciding factors you haven’t already considered.

To ensure your new house is the right one for you, take note of these five tips.

1. How’s the Cell Signal?

You may be lucky enough to come from a place with great cell signal and internet speeds. Not all areas of the country are quite so lucky, especially more rural spaces.

When you explore your new apartment or house, remember to keep an eye on your phone’s signal so you know ahead of time if there are any dead spots in the house. Don’t forget to check internet speeds too.

2. Is There Storage?

An inevitable law of the universe, you always seem to have way more stuff than you think you do.

So when you’re checking out a potential new house, keep an eye on the storage available on the residence.

If there’s a yard, you may be able to get a shed or shipping container for extra storage options. There are plenty of uses for old shipping containers.

3. Where Can You Get Food?

Do you follow any diets or dietary restrictions like vegan or gluten-free? Then you should pay attention to the food retailers in your neighborhood when you’re considering a new home.

Look to see how many grocers are nearby or along your commute. Day to day, having a reliable grocer that helps you support a healthy lifestyle is an absolute must.

4. How’s Public Transportation?

Even if you have a car and plan to drive, it’s worth paying attention to the public transit available in your area. Are there bus routes? Are there bike paths?

A reliable vehicle is nice to have. Knowing you have reliable public transportation or a city safe for bikes can ease stress if you have mechanical issues.

Public transportation is also a great choice to lower your carbon footprint. If you want to pursue a more environmentally friendly lifestyle, access to public transit is a must.

5. What Will You Do With Your Stuff?

As you pack up and move, it’s a good time to keep in mind where your possessions might work well in your new home. If space is smaller, consider downsizing and leaving the extra stuff behind.

By doing so, you could save hundreds of dollars by renting a smaller moving truck.
