Common Electric Motor UsesElectric Motor Types

Electric motors have come a long way in the past few years, with innovations making them more efficient, reliable, and less energy-consuming. These developments have allowed for the technology to be adopted and used in several different essential industries.

In fact, according to recent information from Grand View Research, the electric motor market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 6.4 percent in the next seven years.

Keep reading this guide to discover the common electric motor uses and the different types of electric motors that make it possible.

1. Car Engines

One of the most exciting applications of electric motors is being used inside car engines. Carmakers like Tesla use electric motor parts to power the vehicle and give it electricity to make it run. Although electric car sales in the U.S remained somewhat flat in 2020, other parts of the world such as Europe and China continue to see strong demand.

Tesla is the most famous example of an auto manufacturer that develops electric motors. However, other companies such as Ford, Chevrolet, and Nissan are also producing their own electric car version. The automakers will typically use copper in the electric motors as it’s a powerful conductor.

They are even developing quality electric motor brakes now capable of stopping vehicles effortlessly without creating friction.

2. Industrial Uses

Another common place to find different types of electric motors being used is in the industrial workplace. Various industries will make use of electric motors to help them get the job done quickly and more efficiently. A few examples of the different types of electric motors being used include:

  • Machine tools
  • Power tools
  • Fans
  • Pumps
  • Blowers
  • Movers
  • Shipping

Industrial manufactures are always looking for new ways to reduce costs and speed up different processes – electric motors are giving these companies the ability to do just that.

3. Household Items

You can also find electric motors being used in various places around the house. Essentially anything in the house that has a motor or moves is thanks to electricity. For example, household items you use every day most likely contain an electric motor, including:

  • The refrigerator
  • Garbage disposal
  • Can opener
  • Blenders
  • Mixers
  • Dishwasher
  • Fans

These are just a few examples of ordinary household items that contain an electric motor.

4. Outdoor Equipment

Not only are electric motors found inside the house, but they are relatively common in outdoor equipment as well. Many of the outdoor equipment you use around the house will also use an electric motor to power it and keep it running.

For example, things like electric mowers, leaf blowers, weed whackers, saws or drills, trimmers, and snow blowers are becoming more common to find electric options that are more efficient and reliable than the gas alternatives.

Electric Motor Uses: Going Beyond the Basics

Electric engines are becoming much more popular for use around the house, in industrial workplaces, and on the streets as technology is becoming more advanced. Technological advances have allowed electric motors to be adopted in several different critical areas of the economy, such as cars, industrial machinery, and around the house.
